NBC will not broadcast the Golden Globes Awards in 2022, the network said on Monday.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which awards the awards, has been criticized for a lack of diversity among its ranks. The group said it would try to make changes, but NBC said the process wasn’t fast enough.

“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, changing this magnitude will take time and effort, and we strongly believe that it will take time for the HFPA to get it right,” the company said in a Explanation. “As such, NBC will not be broadcasting the 2022 Golden Globes.”

“Assuming the organization goes ahead with its plan, we’re confident we can air the show in January 2023,” the company continued.

The HFPA is a group of 87 Los Angeles-based journalists who work for overseas media. It’s been under fire from Hollywood for months. In addition to diversity concerns, it has also been charged with inappropriateness when it comes to how the organization reports on the entertainment industry.

Last week, the group unveiled a plan that would increase the number of black reporters in their organization, as well as other people of color, and proposed restrictions on the gifts their constituents can accept and the pay they receive for their work Committees received.

It said it plans to add 20 new members in 2021, with a special focus on black recruits, and then expand that membership by 50% over the next 18 months. Before these changes, the group didn’t have a single black member.

However, these reforms are not fast enough for Hollywood. WarnerMedia, Netflix and Amazon Studios have refused to attend any further HFPA events until the organization demonstrates that it is headed for real and lasting reform.

In 2018, NBC signed an eight-year contract with HFPA to broadcast the Globes for around $ 60 million a year. It is unclear whether the organization will buy the show from another network, and if so, whether any network would be interested in broadcasting it.

After all, some of Hollywood’s biggest voices are calling for boycotts against the organization and even giving back their trophies.

Actor Tom Cruise has returned his three Golden Globes to the HFPA, according to Variety. He won Best Actor Awards for Jerry Maguire and Born on the Fourth of July and Best Supporting Actor for Magnolia.

Actress Scarlett Johansson also joined the chorus of outraged Hollywood talent, which includes Mark Ruffalo, a colleague of “Avenger”, as well as numerous publicists, studios and media organizations.

“As an actor promoting a film, you are expected to participate in the awards season by attending press conferences and award ceremonies,” Johansson said in a statement released over the weekend. “In the past, this often meant asking sexist questions and comments from certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment. This is precisely why I refused to attend their conferences for years.

“The HFPA is an organization that was legitimized by Harvey Weinstein to provide impetus for the recognition of the academy, and the industry followed suit. Unless there are fundamental reforms within the organization, I think it is time to implement one Step back the HFPA and focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and the industry at large. “
