Observe Stay Amazon Union Vote Outcomes

Amazon struck back union action at its Bessemer, Ala., Warehouse. The ballot count in the closely watched effort was revealed on Friday.

A total of 738 employees voted “Yes” in favor of union formation and 1,798 voted “No”. According to the National Labor Relations Board, 76 ballots were marked as void and 505 votes were challenged. The union that led the organization, the retail, wholesale and department store union, said most of the challenges came from Amazon.

About 50 percent of the 5,805 eligible voters in the camp cast ballots in the elections. Each side had to receive more than 50 percent of all ballots cast in order to prevail.

The ballots were counted in random order at the National Labor Relations Board’s office in Birmingham, Alabama, and the process was broadcast through Zoom to more than 200 journalists, lawyers and other observers.

The vote was carried out by mail from the beginning of February until the end of last month. A handful of labor exchange workers on Thursday called out the results of every vote for nearly four hours – “yes” to a union or “no”.
