Noopl seems to be one of the most interesting hardware startups to emerge from CES Day one. The Sacramento-based company has developed an accessory that it claims can drown out background noise for users in a noisy environment.
The small accessory has a Lightning connector (currently only for iOS) that is connected to the bottom of an iPhone. The small dongle has three microphones and an audio signal processor to reduce background noise.

The Noopl app launches when the device is connected and connects to a pair of AirPods Pro. It is designed to use head tracking to determine the direction the wearer is facing for clearer sound in that direction. The app can then be used to widen the directional beam and adjust the volume.
The company was founded by Steven Verdooner and Kevin Snow and builds on technology from the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL) in Sydney.
“This idea came up when Verdooner was in a noisy restaurant with his father and they both struggled to hear each other, even with their father’s state-of-the-art hearing aids in ‘restaurant mode’,” a press release said. “Verdooner saw an immense opportunity to potentially help millions of people and worked with NAL and a small team of experienced scientists and engineers to develop Noopl. Hearing industry veteran Tim Trine was hired as President and CEO in 2020 to create a scalable technology platform, commercialize products and grow the company. “

The device is currently available for pre-order from Noopl and costs $ 199.
