Chelsea and Manchester City are leaving the proposed Super League.

Chelsea, whose fans protested the proposed runaway league outside Stamford Bridge ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League match against Brighton, reportedly changed their minds over the overwhelming negative global reaction.

The club believed there was a risk of dwarfing the good work they have done in the community on the pandemic, combating racism and anti-Semitism.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol said the “totally negative reaction to ESL plans threatened to completely overshadow the club’s good work in the community.”

“Chelsea made a last minute decision to join ESL last week. They now regret the decision and accept that it was a mistake. They felt like they had to hop on the train because it was leaving the station. It put it turned out to be a mistake. ” Train to nowhere. “

The city has also told organizers that they don’t want to be part of the Super League.

The announcement of the competition on Sunday by 12 founding clubs – including Manchester United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham from the Premier League – met with widespread criticism.

“At first glance, it’s obviously great news. It’s a domino effect, and hopefully that’s the end.

14 Premier League clubs reject proposals for the Super League

The 14 Premier League clubs that were not “unanimously and vigorously” involved in the new European Super League turned down plans for the breakaway competition on Tuesday afternoon.

The Premier League met without Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham to discuss the newly announced competition in a virtual get-together.

The two and a half hour meeting, chaired by Richard Masters, Premier League CEO, explored ways of working together to respond to the proposals.

A Premier League statement said: “The Premier League met with the clubs alongside the FA today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal.

“The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously opposed the plans for the competition. The Premier League is considering all available measures to prevent the competition from progressing and is holding shareholders accountable according to its rules.

“The Premier League would like to thank the fans and everyone involved for the support they have shown this week on this important issue. The response shows how much our open pyramid and football community means to the people.”
