Winnoz ‘Haiim was designed to make it easier for you to collect blood from your fingertips and to increase the amount of blood drawn so it can be used for more types of tests. The vacuum-assisted device from the New Taipei City, Taiwan-based company can collect up to 150 to 500 microliters of blood from a fingerprint in around two minutes, depending on the person.
Winnoz is currently showcasing Haiim and eGGi, its molecular detection device that supports isothermal DNA / RNA amplification methods, in the pavilion of the Taiwan Tech Arena at CES with the aim of finding new partners and investors.
Haiim was inspired by Joses Hsiung’s childhood memories of the founder and CEO when he saw his mother going to clinics for regular blood tests. Because his mother’s veins were difficult to see, phlebotomists often needed multiple punctures to get enough blood. Eventually her veins collapsed. Hsiung began working on the device to maximize the amount of blood that could be drawn from fingerprints.
While finger blood draws are typically used for tests that require less than 10 microliters of blood, such as: Such as glucose monitoring or cholesterol panels, Haiim can draw enough for tests that require larger volume, which may help patients avoid venipuncture blood draws.
The device consists of two parts, the main device and disposable cartridges in which the blood is stored until the test. With many clinics and hospitals understaffed, it is designed so staff can use it with less training than traditional blood collection methods. Haiim was approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration in 2019 and is intended for use by health organizations, clinics and hospitals.
